현재 한양대학교 경영대학의 MIS 전공 교수로 재직 중인 이상용 교수는 서울대학교 경제학과를 졸업하고, 미국 Texas A&M 대학교에서 박사학위를 취득하였으며, National University of Singapore(싱가포르 국립대학)에서 교수로 재직한 바 있다.

연구 관심분야는 Economics of IS, 개인정보보호 및 보안, IT 가치평가, 빅데이터를 활용한 금융시장분석 및 경제효과분석, 소셜미디어분석 등이다. 정보통신정책, R&D 정책, 에너지 정책 등과 관련하여 다수의 과제를 수행하고 있으며, 정부정책자문위원으로도 활동하고 있다.
